Celebrating 10 Years of Lara
A decade ago, the loss of Lara ignited a vision to create a foundation that would serve to channel grief into something good. LiveLikeLara Foundation was established to honor Lara and support the causes for which she was most passionate: that of equality and the betterment of humanity.
As we celebrate 10 remarkable years, we reflect on the journey that has brought us here and would like to thank everyone who has been a part of it.
Over the years, LiveLikeLara Foundation has donated a total of $241,821 to a range of outstanding organizations from seven states and Guatemala, including:
o Lara D. Gass 14L Memorial Scholarship (W&L, Lexington, VA)
o Port in the Storm Youth Homeless Shelter (St. Augustine, FL)
o 2nd Harvest Food Bank (Spokane, WA)
o Women & Children’s Free Restaurant (Spokane, WA)
o Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project (Washington, DC)
o Council on Aging (St. Augustine, FL)
o Heritage Place of Indianapolis (Indianapolis, IN)
o Habitat for Humanity (Nashville, TN; St. Augustine, FL)
o Big Brothers, Big Sisters (Delaware; Spokane, WA)
o Old Firehouse Day Shelter (Clarksville, TN)
The support of our donors is essential for the continuation of Lara’s legacy. Your contributions help us maintain her legacy. So many people across the world have been touched by your generosity. Here are a few heartfelt words shared by those impacted:
· “Because of the ramp you all built, my brother can now get out of his house for the first time in several years. I cannot tell you what that has meant for him and his family.”
· “One of the youth residents was accepted to college, and the donation your foundation provided to her is enough to purchase all books plus incidental supplies without worrying.”
· Seeing homeless kids enjoying a playground is pure joy! Thank you for donating funds to build a place where kids have a safe place just to be kids.”
As we celebrate this milestone, we look to the future with hope. The challenges facing our communities remain, but with your help our goal is to continue making this world a better place all while remembering Lara. #livelikelara
